COMM TECH; Applique

Had some fun doing some cute applique. I experimented using different fabrics such as felt, canvas, lace and plastic to create rough textures and little pictures.
These could be used on canvas bags or cushions. After speaking to Sam, i decided i wanted to have a purpose for my work and came up with the idea of combining my sewing and illustration to produce canvas bags that could be sold to students around college.

I looked on the internet for cheap canvas bags. I managed to find sites that sold in bulk but didn't want to buy too many as i would have to do a trial run first. I would also have to research printing and fabric costs.

The little prince

Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them.

I have lived a great deal among grown-ups. I have seen them intimately, close at hand. And that hasn’t much improved my opinion of them.

Grown-ups love figures. When you tell them that you have made a new friend, they never ask you any questions about essential matters. They never say to you, “What does his voice sound like? What games does he love best? Does he collect butterflies?” Instead, they demand: “How old is he? How many brothers has he? How much does he weigh? How much money does his father make?” Only from these figures do they think they have learned anything about him.

If you were to say to the grown-ups: “I saw a beautiful house made of rosy brick, with geraniums in the windows and doves on the roof,” they would not be able to get an idea of that house at all. You have have to say to them: “I saw a house that cost $20,000.” Then they would exclaim: “Oh, what a pretty house that is!”

COMM TECH; knitting

I did some machine knitting. Although i don't intend to pursue knitting i wanted to experiment with all different types of sewing and textiles techniques to broaden my knowledge of technology for this brief.

Pyrography, Gouache;

Pyrography means "writing with fire" and is the traditional art of using a heated tip or wire to burn or scorch designs onto natural materials such as wood or leather. Burning can be done by means of a modern solid-point tool (similar to a soldering iron) or hot wire tool, or a more basic method using a metal implement heated in a fire, or even sunlight concentrated with a magnifying lens.
