Hillcrest School

Had a lovely, if not hectic week running art workshops for young children at Hillcrest school.
My aims were to build up my confidence and to interact with some new people. I felt suprisingly comfortable leading the group at times, and had a really fufiling experience.
They have offered to pay to my CRB check so I can continue working at the school as a mentor, so I look forward to continuing my volunteer work within the Leeds community.

Just finished reading this amazing book. Every single collaboration of words, every punctuation mark has been used for a reason and has its perfect place within the novel. I am in awe.

Leo Lionni

Lionni left his job as a successful magazine editor in 1959 to pursue a career in children's books. Lionni ended up producing more than 40 popular children's books before his death in 1999. I couldn't find many decent images of his work on the on the internet but I'm going to put some of these books on my christmas list..

I think his illustrations are charming and seem very modern considering many were drawn more than 40 years ago.
I'm noticing a theme in my attractions towards illustrations containing animal themes. The stories seem more humorous and magical when animals are used, they can express characteristics that wouldn't seem as interesting through a human character such as Eric Carle's "Grouchy Ladybug' and Judith Kerr's friendly tiger who befriends a girl in "a Tiger Came To Tea'.

An idea for a story..I visited the sea life center and thought it could be a fun theme for a book.
This is about as far as my (lack of) photoshop skills are going to take me. Im reverting back to the cut and stick method.
